WordProof: Ethereum vs. Fake News

At the blockchain conference “Blockdown 2020”, WordProof from Amsterdam presented a plug-in that provides articles on WordPress with a secure time stamp.

A plug-in for the web publishing platform WordPress now enables users to time stamp content on the Ethereum blockchain

The plugin can help with copyright issues to provide evidence of who exactly a certain content originates from. The readers can thus be certain that it has not been changed afterwards. WordPress is the top dog on the market with a share of 60 percent. Around 37 percent of all websites use WordPress as a content management system (CMS).

The plugin is implemented by the Amsterdam-based company WordProof. The plans were according to media reportson October 22nd at the London virtual conference Blockchains BlockDown 2020 announced.

The timestamp is an extremely important tool in the fight against fake news. It provides a unique fingerprint or hash for the latest version of the content that has been added to the blockchain. This proves that the owner of the content created it and that there was no subsequent processing or manipulation. Additionally, the website has proof of publication time which can be useful in the event of potential copyright conflicts.

WordProof also plans with other CMS

Jelle van der Schoot, Product Manager at WordProof, explained his company’s vision at Blockdown 2020. The goal is to be the most user-friendly time stamping tool for use in all content management systems and e-commerce platforms.

WordProof also offers support for EOS and Telos. In July, BTC-ECHO had already reported on the WordProof Timestamp Ecosystem . The project was one of the winners of the EU Commission’s innovation award.

The crypto sector is also increasingly being integrated into WordPress. In April 2020, Draper Goren unveiled Holm, an incubator for blockchain startups, the first DEX plugin for the CMS platform. The plugin enables website owners to use a built-in Decentralized Exchange (DEX) that enables users to exchange between crypto tokens and stablecoins.

The official WordPress site itself already has three pages of plugins that fall under the crypto applications category. The most popular include a crypto payment portal with over 10,000 active installations and a crypto price ticker widget with over 7,000 active installations.
